How Statz Rating works:
- Each player receives a contextual match impact score based on their all-round contribution — batting, bowling, and situational factors.
- Ratings are scaled against the season benchmark so they are directly comparable across fixtures and to the season leaderboard.
- A typical top performer scores around 100. Exceptional performances can exceed 100.
Punjab Kings vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru – IPL 2026 Match Report | Statz
Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Punjab Kings by 23 runs at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday. It was the 61st match of 74 in the Indian Premier League 2026 Regular Season and it mattered – RCB stay top of the table, while PBKS are left sweating on a playoff spot with two games to go.
First Innings – RCB Post 222
Punjab Kings won the toss and chose to bowl – a brave call at Dharamsala, one of T20 cricket’s best batting tracks. RCB took full advantage.
Jacob Bethell opened aggressively, hitting 11 off 7 before falling bowled to give Punjab their first wicket at 21 in the 3rd over. Virat Kohli took over from there. The RCB captain played an authoritative knock of 58 off 37 – four fours, three sixes, strike rate 157 – building a crucial partnership before falling caught at 157 in the 15th over.
Devdutt Padikkal came in at three and looked dangerous from the off. His 45 off 25 (four fours, three sixes, SR 180) fell short of what it deserved when he was caught at 97 in the 10th over. The dismissal left RCB needing a big finish – and they got one.
Venkatesh Iyer was the engine of the RCB innings. His unbeaten 73 off 40 – eight fours, four sixes, strike rate 183 – carried RCB to 222/4. Tim David provided the perfect foil at the death, smashing 28 off 12 before falling to the final ball. RCB added 65 off the last five overs.
For Punjab, Harpreet Brar was the pick of the bowlers with 2/35 from four overs (economy 8.75). Arshdeep Singh went for 43 from four, while Lockie Ferguson was punished for 43 from three (economy 14.33). Yuzvendra Chahal claimed one but went for 42 from three.
Second Innings – Punjab Fall Short
Chasing 223, Punjab needed a fast start. They got the opposite. Priyansh Arya fell for a golden duck in the third ball, caught at 1/0.3. Shreyas Iyer lasted only three balls for 1, dismissed at 19 in the fourth over. Punjab were 19/3 before the powerplay was halfway done, and the chase already looked steep.
Cooper Connolly tried to rebuild. His 37 off 22 (three fours, three sixes, SR 168) gave Punjab some momentum, but he fell caught at 62 in the eighth over – effectively ending any realistic hope of a chase.
Suryansh Shedge kept things respectable with 35 off 22 (two fours, two sixes), going at 159 before falling at 93 in the 11th. Marcus Stoinis added 37 off 25 before his LBW at 160 in the 17th made the equation impossible.
Then came the moment of the Punjab innings. Shashank Singh arrived and produced something special in a losing cause – 56 off 27 (four fours, four sixes, SR 207), taking Punjab to 194 before falling caught at 19.2. It was too little, too late. Punjab finished 199/8.
For RCB, Rasikh Salam Dar led the bowling with 3/36 from four (economy 9.0). Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed 2/38, while Romario Shepherd chipped in with 1/8 from one over.
Statz MVP – Shashank Singh (96.18)
Statz rates Shashank Singh as the match’s standout performer with a Statz rating of 96.18 – the highest in the game. The Statz system calculates impact based on match context, and Shashank’s 56 off 27 in the death overs, against quality RCB bowling with a near-impossible target, registering 112 Dream11 points, earned him top billing.
That puts Statz firmly at odds with the official Man of the Match award, which went to Venkatesh Iyer. Iyer’s unbeaten 73 was outstanding – the best individual batting knock of the match – and it was central to RCB’s total. But Shashank’s innings in a hopeless chase, with more contextual difficulty factored in, earned the higher Statz rating. Venkatesh Iyer rates 79.98 in the Statz system.
Top 5 Statz Ratings
- Shashank Singh (PBKS) – 96.18 – 56 off 27 (SR 207) in a losing chase, 112 Dream11 points
- Venkatesh Iyer (RCB) – 79.98 – 73* off 40 (SR 183), the match-winning innings, 147 D11 points
- Harpreet Brar (PBKS) – 78.08 – 2/35 with ball and 5* with bat, best bowler in the Punjab attack
- Rasikh Salam Dar (RCB) – 65.71 – 3/36 from four overs, dismantled Punjab’s top order
- Tim David (RCB) – 58.90 – 28 off 12 (SR 233) at the death, 70 Dream11 points
Turning Point
The dismissal of Cooper Connolly – caught at 62/4 in the 7.3 overs – by Rasikh Salam Dar effectively ended the chase. Punjab had already lost Arya, Prabhsimran, and Shreyas Iyer cheaply. Connolly was the only batter offering genuine acceleration, and his departure left a fragile middle order facing 161 off 75 balls. From that moment, it was damage limitation.
Match Context
