Rovman Powell delivered a match-winning cameo with an explosive 50 off 15 balls as the Knight Riders posted 187, before Matthew Short nearly carried San Francisco home with a brilliant 94 off 62. Los Angeles Post 187 – Powell’s Blitz Seals the Deal
San Francisco won the toss and elected to bowl, but Los Angeles built a commanding total through disciplined batting and a devastating late assault. Colin Munro anchored the innings with 51 off 44 balls (5 fours, 2 sixes), setting a solid platform at the top. Andre Fletcher fell cheaply for 7 at 14/2 in the opening over, but Andre Russell steadied the ship with a composed 62 off 50 (4 fours, 3 sixes) to anchor the middle overs.
The real fireworks came from Rovman Powell, who smashed an unbeaten 50 off just 15 balls (2 fours, 6 sixes) at a strike rate of 333 to propel Los Angeles past 180. Matthew Tromp contributed 8 off 7 before falling at 130/3 in the 16th over. San Francisco’s bowling lacked consistency – Haris Rauf conceded 53 runs from 4 overs at an economy of 13.25, while Ghulam Mudassar took 2/42 from 4 overs. Matthew Short claimed 1/18 from 2 overs with the ball.
San Francisco’s Chase Falls 7 Short
San Francisco’s reply began in disastrous fashion. Lhuan-dre Pretorius fell for a duck at 0/1 in the first ball, and Finn Allen departed for another duck at 1/2 in the second over. The Unicorns looked in serious trouble, but Matthew Short produced a masterclass to keep the chase alive.
Short’s 94 off 62 (10 fours, 2 sixes) at a strike rate of 152 was a tour de force – he carried the innings almost single-handedly through the middle overs. Sanjay Krishnamurthi provided crucial support with 65 off 47 (6 fours, 3 sixes), building a 151-run partnership with Short to bring San Francisco within touching distance. Krishnamurthi fell at 152/3 in the 17th over, and Aaron Hardie managed just 6 at 173/4 in the 19th. Hassan Khan smashed 7 off 2 (1 six) in the final over, but it proved insufficient.
Sunil Narine was Los Angeles’s standout bowler, taking 2/28 from 4 overs at an economy of 7. Shadley van Schalkwyk claimed 2/43 from 4 overs, while Jason Holder conceded 28 from 4 overs without taking a wicket.
