San Francisco Unicorns beat MI New York by 9 wickets (with 26 balls remaining) – Major League Cricket Match Report
San Francisco Unicorns won by 9 wickets with 26 balls remaining in the 23rd match of 34 in Major League Cricket at Grand Prairie Stadium. Lhuan-dre Pretorius produced one of the most devastating individual performances of the season – 102 off just 52 balls at a strike rate of 196 – as the Unicorns dismantled MI New York with contemptuous ease. The win moves San Francisco to the top of the standings on 10 points from 8 matches, while MI New York slip to third on 8 points.
MI New York’s Batting Collapse
MI New York won the toss and elected to bat, but their innings never gained traction against a disciplined San Francisco bowling attack. Ryan Rickelton made a bright start with 35 off 21 balls (4 fours, 2 sixes) at a strike rate of 167, but was clean bowled at 56/1 in the 6th over. Quinton de Kock fell cheaply for 6 at 24/2 in the 2nd over, and Monank Patel managed just 1 off 4 balls before being clean bowled at 34/3.
Nicholas Pooran (19 off 24) and Kieron Pollard (16 off 13, 2 fours, 1 six) offered some resistance in the middle overs, but neither could build a substantial partnership. Sunny Patel struck 32 off 23 balls (3 fours, 1 six) to provide late-order aggression, while Romario Shepherd remained unbeaten on 11 off 9 (1 four, 1 six). MI New York limped to 143 for 9 from their 20 overs – a total that looked vulnerable from the outset.
Matthew Short was the standout bowler, taking 3 for 24 from 4 overs at an economy of 6. Haris Rauf claimed 2 for 24 from 4 overs, while Aaron Hardie took 2 for 17 from 3 overs. Anirudh Immanuel and Brody Couch each claimed a wicket as San Francisco’s bowling proved suffocating throughout.
Pretorius Takes the Chase Apart
San Francisco’s response was brutally efficient. Pretorius announced his intentions immediately, striking 10 fours and 5 sixes in a masterclass of aggressive batting. He raced to 102 not out off just 52 balls, with a strike rate of 196, dismantling MI New York’s bowling attack with clinical precision. Finn Allen contributed 20 off 17 (3 fours) before being caught at 52/1 in the 6th over, but the damage was already done.
Matthew Short finished unbeaten on 19 off 25 balls as San Francisco reached 146 for 1 in just 15.4 overs. Trent Boult was expensive for MI New York, conceding 41 from 3 overs at an economy of 13.67, while Shepherd was the pick of their bowlers with 1 for 17 from 4 overs at an economy of 4.25. The chase was over in a flash – San Francisco needed just 26 balls fewer than MI New York’s entire innings.

Match Analysis
This was a one-sided contest from start to finish. MI New York’s batting lacked cohesion and fell apart against San Francisco’s disciplined bowling attack, with no batter able to build a substantial innings. The loss of early wickets – particularly Rickelton’s dismissal at 56/1 – left them vulnerable, and the middle order failed to recover. A total of 143 was always going to be insufficient against a San Francisco side in such imperious form.
Pretorius’ assault made the chase a formality. His strike rate of 196 was simply too much for MI New York’s bowlers to contain, and by the time the Unicorns had reached 100, the match was effectively over. San Francisco’s clinical execution – both with bat and ball – demonstrated why they sit atop the Major League Cricket standings.
