Punjab Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad – IPL 2026 Match Report
Punjab Kings chased down 220 with something to spare at Mullanpur on Saturday, beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 wickets with 7 balls remaining in match 17 of IPL 2026. It was a clinical performance from the hosts, who produced firepower at the top and composure from their captain when it mattered most.
SRH Set a Target – Abhishek Goes Ballistic
SRH posted 219/6 from their 20 overs, built almost entirely around a stunning powerplay partnership. Abhishek Sharma was the headline act – 74 off just 28 balls, with 8 sixes in a knock that hit a Statz Rating of 55.3. He and Travis Head put on 120 for the first wicket inside 8.1 overs, which should have been match-winning foundation. Head contributed 38 off 23 before both fell in quick succession to Shashank Singh, who removed them inside two deliveries to swing the game.
That double strike – Shashank’s 2/20 from 3 overs at an economy of 6.67 – was the turning point of the SRH innings. Without it, PBKS might have been chasing 240. Heinrich Klaasen tried to rebuild with 39 off 33, and Aniket Verma smashed 18 off 9 before a run out, but the damage from mid-innings wicket-fall clusters kept SRH below their ceiling. Arshdeep Singh took 2/50 including the big scalp of Ishan Kishan, while Xavier Bartlett chipped in with Klaasen late on.
PBKS Chase – Explosive Start, Iyer Finishes It
Punjab were never really under pressure in the chase. Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh came out swinging – 99 for the first wicket in 6.2 overs. Priyansh hit 57 off 20 balls (SR 285, Statz Rating 56.2), five fours and five sixes in a display that tore the powerplay apart. Prabhsimran followed with 51 off 25. Both fell to Shivang Kumar, who was the pick of the SRH bowlers with 3/33 from 4 overs – a Statz Rating of 60.3 and the best figures of the match in terms of economy.
Cooper Connolly went cheaply for 11, Shivang’s third scalp, and at 128/3 there was a brief window for SRH. Shreyas Iyer closed it immediately. The PBKS captain finished unbeaten on 69 off 33 balls – 5 fours, 5 sixes, strike rate of 209 – bringing up the win with authority. Shashank Singh hit an unbeaten 16 off 9 alongside him to see Punjab home with 7 balls remaining.
