Adam Lyth set the tone with a devastating 52 off 27 balls as Yorkshire posted 193 all out, before Liam Patterson-White‘s miserly 3/13 from 4 overs strangled Nottinghamshire’s chase. Yorkshire Innings – Lyth Explosive, Van Beek Finishes Strong
Yorkshire won the toss and elected to bat, and Adam Lyth announced his intentions immediately. The opener smashed 52 off just 27 balls – 3 fours and 5 sixes at a strike rate of 193 – to propel Yorkshire to 89/1 by the 7th over. William Luxton (38 off 23, 5 fours, 1 six) provided solid support in a 50-run opening stand before falling at 93/2 in the 8th over.
Joe Root fell for just 2 at 95/3, but Jonny Bairstow steadied the ship with 32 off 27 (4 fours) to take Yorkshire to 158/4 by the 17th over. Moeen Ali contributed 20 off 14 (1 four, 2 sixes) in a brief cameo before the middle order collapsed. Logan van Beek rescued the innings with a breezy 28 off 16 (2 sixes) to push Yorkshire to 193 all out in 19.5 overs, though he was run out at 193/8 in the penultimate ball.
Liam Patterson-White was the standout bowler for Nottinghamshire, taking 3/13 from 4 overs at an economy of 3.25 – a masterclass in death bowling. George Linde took 2/36 from 4 overs while Benny Howell claimed 2/35 from 4. Binura Fernando and Olly Stone each took 1 wicket but proved expensive, conceding 42 and 40 runs respectively.
Nottinghamshire Chase – Patterson-White’s Brilliance Stifles Momentum
Joe Clarke started aggressively with 23 off 13 (5 fours) to give Nottinghamshire early momentum, but fell at 44/1 in the 4th over. George Munsey managed just 9 at 32/2 before Jack Haynes took up the mantle with 37 off 25 (5 fours) to rebuild at 106/3 by the 11th over.
The chase unravelled from there. Tom Moores fell for 2 at 56/5, and though George Linde struck 25 off 14 (3 sixes) and Benny Howell made 30 off 20 (4 fours), Nottinghamshire could not build the necessary momentum. Dillon Pennington (37 off 20, 2 fours, 3 sixes) provided late fireworks but it proved too little, too late. Nottinghamshire finished on 175 all out in 19.3 overs, falling 18 runs short.
Andrew Tye was the pick of Yorkshire’s bowlers with 3/18 from 3.3 overs, while Hasan Ali took 2/30 from 4 and Joe Root claimed 2/35 from 3 overs. Dominic Bess and Jafer Chohan each took 1 wicket.
