Glamorgan beat Gloucestershire by 50 runs – T20 Blast Match Report
Glamorgan won by 50 runs in the 101st match of 115 in the T20 Blast 2026 at County Ground, Bristol. Ben Kellaway delivered a match-defining all-round display – 47 off 22 balls with the bat and 2/31 with the ball – to power Glamorgan to a commanding 50-run victory over Gloucestershire. The win keeps Glamorgan (10th, 6W 6L, 24pts) in contention, while Gloucestershire (5th, 7W 5L, 28pts) suffer a costly defeat in their push for the knockouts.
Glamorgan Innings – Carlson and Smale Set the Tone
Glamorgan won the toss and elected to bat, and their top order made the decision pay handsomely. Kiran Carlson opened with a blistering 73 off just 40 balls (4 fours, 6 sixes) at a strike rate of 182.5, anchoring Glamorgan’s powerplay assault. Will Smale complemented him perfectly with 54 off 28 (8 fours, 1 six) at 193, building a 105-run stand that set Gloucestershire on the back foot from the outset.
Carlson fell stumped at 156/1 in the 13th over, but the damage was already done. Ben Kellaway then took centre stage with a devastating 47 off 22 (2 fours, 4 sixes) at 214, propelling Glamorgan from 156/1 to 193/3 in just 16.2 overs. The middle order continued the onslaught – Sean Dickson smashed 22 off 9 (3 fours, 1 six) at 244 before being bowled, while Asa Tribe added 16 off 9 (3 fours) to push Glamorgan past 230.
Graeme van Buuren was Gloucestershire’s standout bowler with 2/32 from 4 overs, while D’Arcy Short took 2/29 from 3. However, Gloucestershire’s attack lacked the discipline needed to contain Glamorgan’s explosive batting. Matthew Taylor conceded 51 from 4 overs, and James Hayes went for 44 from just 2 – economy rates that proved fatal. Glamorgan finished on 235/7, a total that would prove beyond Gloucestershire’s reach.
Gloucestershire’s Chase Falls Short
Gloucestershire’s reply began promisingly. D’Arcy Short struck 35 off 19 (6 fours, 1 six) at 184 to give the hosts early momentum, while Dawid Malan contributed 39 off 27 (5 fours) at 144. However, the loss of both openers – Short caught at 63/2 in the 5th over and Malan bowled at 104/1 in the 9th – left Gloucestershire’s middle order exposed.
Kamran Dhariwal (27 off 15, 1 four, 2 sixes) and James Bracey (22 off 12, 2 fours, 1 six) kept the chase alive with quick-fire contributions, but Glamorgan’s bowling tightened when it mattered. Ben Kellaway was immaculate with the ball, conceding just 31 from 4 overs while taking 2/31, including the crucial dismissal of Dhariwal at 148/5 in the 14th over. Daniel Douthwaite and Mason Crane added 2/32 and 2/46 respectively, strangling Gloucestershire’s lower order. Graeme van Buuren (28 off 18, 2 fours, 1 six) fought hard in the lower order, but Gloucestershire fell well short, finishing on 185 all out in 19.1 overs.
