How Statz Rating works:
- Each player receives a contextual match impact score based on their all-round contribution — batting, bowling, and situational factors.
- Ratings are scaled against the season benchmark so they are directly comparable across fixtures and to the season leaderboard.
- A typical top performer scores around 100. Exceptional performances can exceed 100.
Northants vs Essex – T20 Blast 2026 Match Report | Statz
Northamptonshire Demolish Essex by 130 Runs to Stay Perfect at Seven from Seven
Northamptonshire won by 130 runs against Essex in match 57 of the T20 Blast 2026 at the County Ground, Northampton. A devastating batting display saw Northamptonshire post 238/6 before Calvin Harrison ripped through the Essex batting with sensational figures of 5/9 from 2.2 overs to complete a comprehensive rout. Northamptonshire remain top of the table with a perfect seven wins from seven (28 points), while Essex drop to 8th on 16 points.
Northamptonshire Innings: 238/6 (20 overs)
Essex won the toss and elected to bowl first – a decision they would quickly regret. Ricardo Vasconcelos and Chris Lynn launched a ferocious opening assault, putting on 98 for the first wicket in just 7.5 overs. Vasconcelos was extraordinary at the top, smashing 44 off just 21 balls with 10 fours at a strike rate of 210 before he was clean bowled.
David Willey continued the carnage at number three. The veteran all-rounder clubbed 65 off 29 balls (6 fours, 4 sixes) at a staggering strike rate of 224 as he and Lynn added 48 for the second wicket. Lynn fell caught at 146/2 (11.2 overs) after a magnificent 75 off 37 balls (11 fours, 3 sixes, SR 203) – the highest individual score of the match.
Willey and Justin Broad (28 off 21, 3 fours, 1 six) then combined in a punishing 69-run stand for the third wicket, taking the score from 146/2 to 215/3 (17.3 overs) when Willey was finally caught. Lewis McManus (7 off 5) and Saif Zaib (11 off 7, 1 six) kept the runs flowing in the death overs as Northamptonshire piled on 238/6 – a massive total on any ground.
Simon Harmer was the best of the Essex bowlers with 2/39 from four overs, while Zaman Akhter took 2/46 from four. Shane Snater (1/42, economy 14.00) and Charlie Bennett (1/34) were expensive, and Luc Benkenstein conceded 22 from his only over.
Essex Chase: 108 all out (13.2 overs)
Chasing an imposing 239, Essex needed a fast start but lost Paul Walter (13 off 8, 3 fours) clean bowled at 15/1 (1.4 overs). Jordan Cox (21 off 9, 2 fours, 2 sixes, SR 233) briefly threatened with some clean ball-striking, but was caught at 47/2 (3.6 overs). Michael Pepper (23 off 11, 3 fours, 1 six, SR 209) also scored freely before being caught at 57/3 (4.4 overs).
From 57/3, the Essex innings disintegrated. Charlie Allison (5 off 7) fell at 66/4 (6.1 overs), Luc Benkenstein (4 off 4) at 72/5 (7.2 overs), and Matthew Critchley (11 off 8) was bowled at 85/6 (9.1 overs). Simon Harmer (12 off 15) showed some resistance, but the required rate was already astronomical. Calvin Harrison then produced a devastating spell, claiming five wickets to demolish the tail. Shane Snater was stumped at 98/8 (11.4 overs), Zaman Akhter (7 off 6) was LBW at 108/9 (13.1 overs), and Charlie Bennett was bowled first ball to end the innings at 108 all out (13.2 overs).
Calvin Harrison finished with remarkable figures of 5/9 from 2.2 overs at an economy of 3.86. Ben Sanderson contributed 2/25 from two overs, George Scrimshaw took 1/23 from three, Saif Zaib returned 1/9 from two overs (economy 4.50), and James Sales claimed 1/18 from two.
Statz MVP: Calvin Harrison – 98.57
Calvin Harrison earns the Statz MVP award with a match impact rating of 98.57 out of 100. His devastating 5/9 from 2.2 overs ripped through the Essex batting in a match-defining spell. The Statz rating calculates impact based on match context, and Harrison’s ability to run through the tail after the top order had already been destabilised gave Essex no chance of recovery. No official Man of the Match was named.

- Chris Lynn – 85.24 – Top-scored with 75 off 37 (11 fours, 3 sixes, SR 203) in a devastating opening blitz.
- Simon Harmer – 80.89 – Best Essex figures of 2/39 from four overs and contributed 12 with the bat in a losing cause.
- Ricardo Vasconcelos – 62.76 – Explosive 44 off 21 (10 fours, SR 210) to set the tone in the opening powerplay.
Turning Point
The dismissal of Jordan Cox, caught at 47/2 (3.6 overs), extinguished any hope of Essex mounting a serious challenge. Cox had been striking at 233 with 21 off 9 balls, and his brief cameo was the only point where Essex threatened to make a dent in the mammoth target. Once he fell, Michael Pepper followed at 57/3, and the chase was effectively over with more than two-thirds of the innings still remaining.
Match Context
This was match 57 of 115 in the T20 Blast 2026. Northamptonshire are the only unbeaten side in the tournament, leading the table on 28 points (W7 L0, NRR +2.235) with a massive net run rate advantage. Essex slip to 8th (W4 L3, 16 points, NRR -0.501), and this 130-run hammering will have done significant damage to their run rate. The margin of victory was the largest of the tournament so far, underlining Northamptonshire’s status as the team to beat.
