How Statz Rating works:
- Each player receives a contextual match impact score based on their all-round contribution — batting, bowling, and situational factors.
- Ratings are scaled against the season benchmark so they are directly comparable across fixtures and to the season leaderboard.
- A typical top performer scores around 100. Exceptional performances can exceed 100.
Delhi Capitals vs Punjab Kings – IPL 2026 Match Report | Statz
Punjab Kings won by 6 wickets (with 7 balls remaining) in the 35th match of 74 in the Indian Premier League 2026, producing one of the competition’s great individual performances at Arun Jaitley Stadium. Punjab Kings stormed past a mammoth 265-run target to extend their unbeaten run to six wins from six completed games, moving further clear at the top of the table. For Delhi Capitals, it was a crushing defeat despite posting 264 on their own ground – a total that should have been enough against almost any side in the tournament.
First Innings: Delhi Capitals Post 264/2
Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to bat, and what followed was a batting exhibition that pushed the boundaries of T20 scoring. Pathum Nissanka gave the innings a brisk start with 11 off 7 but fell caught at 28/1 in the 3rd over (2.4), the first wicket to fall in what was otherwise a largely untroubled partnership session.
Lokesh Rahul then took complete control. The DC captain produced an innings for the ages – 152 not out off 67 balls, striking at 227, with 16 fours and 9 sixes. It was the kind of knock that leaves attack statistics in tatters. Nitish Rana gave him tremendous support at the other end, hammering 91 off 44 at a strike rate of 207, putting on a huge stand before Rana fell caught at 248/2 in the 19th over (18.3). David Miller came in and finished with 3 not out off 3 as the innings closed at 264/2 from 20 overs.
For Punjab Kings’ bowlers, it was a bruising day. Arshdeep Singh (1/49 from 4) and Xavier Bartlett (1/69 from 4) were the wicket-takers but with no reward in the economy column. Marco Jansen went for 45 from 4 wicketless, Vijaykumar Vyshak 48 from 3, and Yuzvendra Chahal 42 from 4 without a wicket. A total of 264/2 looked impregnable.
Second Innings: Punjab Kings Chase it Down in 18.5 Overs
Punjab Kings’ chase began at a ferocious pace. Priyansh Arya launched 43 off 17 balls at a strike rate of 253, striking 5 sixes, before being caught at 126/1 in the 7th over (6.5). At that stage Punjab looked destined to coast home. But Prabhsimran Singh had been doing the real damage at the other end – 76 off 26 at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 292, with 9 fours and 5 sixes. His LBW dismissal at 132/2 in the 8th over (7.3) brought some doubt into proceedings for the first time.
Cooper Connolly fell for 17 off 10 at 145/3 in the 10th over (9.2), and suddenly DC’s attack had a sniff with 120 still needed from 65 balls. But Shreyas Iyer shut the door emphatically. The Punjab captain made 71 not out off 36 balls at a strike rate of 197, steering the chase alongside Nehal Wadhera (25 off 15) before Shashank Singh (19 not out off 10) helped close it out. Punjab got home in the 19th over, reaching 265/4 with 7 balls to spare.
From DC’s bowling attack, Kuldeep Yadav was the pick with 2/46 from 4 overs, including key scalps that briefly kept DC in the game. Axar Patel took 1/44 from 4, while Vipraj Nigam chipped in with 1/24 from 2. Mukesh Kumar (0/55 from 3) and T. Natarajan (0/54 from 3.5) were expensive. In a 265-run chase, DC’s bowlers ultimately had no margin for error.
Statz MVP: Lokesh Rahul – 142.43/100
Lokesh Rahul is the Statz MVP with a rating of 142.43 out of 100 – a score that reflects just how far above the match average his performance was. Statz calculates impact based on match context, and a 152 not out off 67 in a 264-run total that still required topping to win makes this one of the outstanding individual contributions of the IPL 2026 season so far. Statz and the official match adjudicators are in full agreement here – Rahul was the runaway standout.

- Lokesh Rahul (DC) – 296 Dream11 points | MI Rating: 142.43. Unplayable. 152* off 67 at a strike rate of 227, 16 fours and 9 sixes. The innings that set this match up.
- Nitish Rana (DC) – 181 Dream11 points. 91 off 44 at 207 strike rate. The perfect foil to Rahul – punishing and relentless.
- Prabhsimran Singh (PBKS) – 172 Dream11 points. 76 off 26 at a ridiculous strike rate of 292. Essentially won the first third of the chase on his own.
- Shreyas Iyer (PBKS) – 151 Dream11 points. 71* off 36 at 197. The composed finisher who made sure the chaos of the powerplay translated into a win.
- Priyansh Arya (PBKS) – 95 Dream11 points. 43 off 17 at 253 strike rate. Destroyed the powerplay and set the tone for the chase from ball one.
Turning Point
The moment the match turned was Prabhsimran Singh’s LBW dismissal at 132/2 in over 7.3 – bowled by Kuldeep Yadav. At that point Punjab had raced to 132 in under 8 overs chasing 265, but two wickets in quick succession – Arya (caught, over 6.5) and then Prabhsimran – suddenly had DC back in the contest with 133 still needed. Had Cooper Connolly not followed shortly after at 145/3, Punjab might have wobbled further. Instead, Shreyas Iyer’s arrival killed the match as a contest.
Match Context
The 35th match of 74 in the Indian Premier League 2026 Regular Season leaves the table looking stark. Punjab Kings sit 1st with 13 points from 7 games (W6 L0, NR1) and an NRR of +1.333 – they are not just top, they are pulling away. A 265-run chase achieved with 7 balls remaining says everything about where this team is operating right now.
Delhi Capitals drop to 6th with 6 points from 7 (W3 L4) and an NRR of -0.184 – level on points with three other teams but separated by run rate. A 264 that still got beaten at home is a hammer blow to both their NRR and their confidence. With the top four very much up for grabs through the second half of the season, DC desperately need wins.
