Punjab Kings beat Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets – IPL 2026 Match Report
Punjab Kings chased down 196 at the Wankhede with 21 balls to spare, winning by 7 wickets to move to the top half of the IPL 2026 table. A masterful Quinton de Kock hundred for Mumbai Indians was not enough – Arshdeep Singh’s three-wicket opening burst ripped the heart out of the chase before it started, and Prabhsimran Singh’s brutal 80 off 39 finished it off in style.
Mumbai Indians Post 195/6
Mumbai’s innings had everything – and still wasn’t enough. Ryan Rickelton lasted just 8 balls before Arshdeep Singh caught him at the hands of Shashank Singh for 2. Suryakumar Yadav lasted one delivery, dragging Arshdeep to Yuzvendra Chahal at 12/2 inside three overs.
From there, Quinton de Kock anchored one of the IPL’s standout innings. He was simply magnificent – 112 not out off 60 balls, hitting 8 fours and 7 sixes at a strike rate of 186.67, and carrying his bat across a full 20 overs. Naman Dhir provided the necessary muscle in the middle, blasting 50 off 31 balls before Xavier Bartlett took the catch off Shashank Singh.
Hardik Pandya chipped in with 14, Sherfane Rutherford fell to Arshdeep for 1, and Tilak Varma was run out for 8 off 3 to end the innings in hurried fashion. Without de Kock, this was a par 150. With him, MI reached 195/6 – a total that should have been competitive.
Punjab Kings’ bowling was disciplined where it counted. Arshdeep Singh was exceptional – 3/22 in 4 overs, economy of 5.5, the best figures on the night. Marco Jansen picked up the Hardik wicket. Shardul Thakur went for 42, Deepak Chahar 45, and Jasprit Bumrah – strangely flat – conceded 41 without a wicket.
Punjab Kings Knock it Off in 16.3 Overs
PBKS lost two early. Priyansh Arya went for 15, caught by Deepak Chahar off AM Ghazanfar in the third over. Cooper Connolly followed for 17 – caught by Rickelton off Ghazanfar again – leaving PBKS at 45/2 in the fifth.
Then Prabhsimran Singh took over. Batting with the freedom of a side who knew the game was effectively won, he smashed 80 not out off 39 balls – 11 fours, 2 sixes, strike rate of 205.13. Shreyas Iyer provided the platform alongside him, cracking 66 off 35 before Shardul Thakur finally got him caught at long-on in the 16th over at 184/3.
Marcus Stoinis finished it off with 10 not out. PBKS knocked off the target in 16.3 overs with barely any drama after the early exchanges. AM Ghazanfar (2/31) was the pick of MI’s bowlers. Bumrah’s 0/41 will be the headline that hurts.
Statz MVP: Arshdeep Singh
Arshdeep Singh takes the Statz MVP award with a Statz Rating of 81.8/100. His opening spell changed the game – removing both openers inside three overs, he handed Punjab Kings a stranglehold they never loosened. Three wickets, 22 runs, economy of 5.5 at the Wankhede, where batting is the norm. That’s the difference.
Statz Ratings – Top 5
Arshdeep Singh (81.8) led all players. Quinton de Kock (55.5) rated second – his century earned it, but the eventual margin penalised the losing side. Prabhsimran Singh (52.9) was third for his 80 off 39 in the chase. AM Ghazanfar (44.2) was the standout MI bowler in fourth. Shreyas Iyer (41.6) rounded out the top five.
Turning Point
Arshdeep removing Suryakumar for a golden duck in the second over was the match’s pivot. SKY is a player capable of putting any target out of sight inside five overs. His dismissal for 0 off 1 ball meant the chase was never under any real pressure. Mumbai built to 195 despite losing their most dangerous batter in the powerplay – Punjab Kings built to 198 with the game firmly in their hands throughout.
